Can I teach my child reading without teaching experiences?

Parent is the first teacher of a child’s life. You already speak the language and are able to read. Of course, you can teach your child to read. Let’s put it this way! When your child goes to school, who will help them with all the homework after school? Teachers teach them the basis but don’t have enough time to hear each kid read everyday. Parents must involve and find time to make sure kids read correctly. If you can do this, of course, you can teach them to read.

How long does it take to teach my child to read?

It took me six months teaching my daughter to read at the age of 4. It took me 2 months to teach my son at the age of 6. They both learnt from the same book and techniques. It is depending on their ages and how much they know pre-reading such as alphabets, letters’ sounds and names, phonics, ect. It takes longer if you teach kids before they can comprehend the meaning of words and stories. The important part of teach reading is choosing age-appropriate books for your child.
