The lists below are our family favorite reading. I created this list as a start list for you to get the process going if you don’t know where to start and what to look for.

If you plan to use these books for teaching your child to read, most of the books I show below require alphabets recognition. You child has to know how to sound out the letters.

In addition, most of the books I am sharing here you can find them at the local libraries.

Flip-a-Word Books Set

It is an easy series for early reading. My 4 years old loved the rhyme and had all the basis words that she knew. It starts out with words, then into short phrases, and then simple sentences. You can click on the pictures and see more details.

This set is wonderful for playing searching words game.

I Can Read: Otter Set

This set is the beginning books for emergent readers. We love this set. They are fun to read with cute pictures and lovely characters. Words are repetitive, sight words, and not difficult to read.

Elephant & Piggie by Mo Willem

This is funny set that your child will read them over and over again. My seven years old still holds on to these books and reads them everyday. You can buy the whole set here.

The Pigeon by Mo Willem

This is another wonderful series by Mo Willem.

Level A: Dear Dragon Developing Readers Series

This is a wonderful series for young children who are beginners. I love these books and have my daughter reading most of them. You can use this series for teaching your kids how to read. The books provide the Words in This Book list for practicing. It includes picture glossary and common sight words list for your child to practice before reading.

Level B: Dear Dragon Developing Readers Series

Level C: Dear Dragon Developing Reader Series

Level D: Dear Dragon Developing Readers Series

Level E – G: Continuing Reading the Classic Dear Dragon Series

This series is higher than level A – D. More complicated sentences. These books are repetitive. Basic and simple words are repetitious for kids to practice. It fosters young readers to gain confidence and comprehension.

There are also tips and high frequency words in the back of the books. The activities in the back helps parents to ask questions and interact with their kids. The activities are focusing on phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.

This series is one of my favorite.
