Local Field Trips In Virginia

After our first unplanned field trip to Eden Center, I started to look at field trips differently now. It is not just a trip to the zoo or pumpkin patch but is also a trip to everyday places. Now I see lessons everywhere I go. For example, I can take them to the library and teach them how to search for books on the computer, shelves and check out books. If they can’t find the book they are looking for, they have to reach out and ask for help from librarians. When I read the blog post from Christy about Everyday Places Field Trips, I think it is easy to have field trips every week now.

Being inspired by her list, I sat down and worked on a local field trip list. We are from the DMV area on the Virginia side. The list below is the ones I can come up with. I want to share this list with you if you are living in VA.

cherry blossoms, landscape, spring
tulips, flowers, tulip field

I have a couple of them on my schedule. Cherry Blossom is at the end of March. Strawberry picking is sometime in May. Chocolate factory tour and Gem & Jewelry show are scheduled for next week. My boy is interested in gems and rocks. He has been asking me if I know where to go to find gems locally. I can’t find any active mine in our area, but the gem shows in the Dulles expo. I can’t wait to show him. In the meantime, let me know what you want to add on this list and what your favorite is.
